Dental Bridge vs Dental Implant

Attention Allen Park Replace Your Dental Bridge Before You Lose Teeth

In this post from Allen Park Dental Care we discuss dental implants as an alternative to traditional dental bridges.

Bridges have been a standard tooth replacement option for many years. There is more than one type, but the most commmon consists of an artificial tooth held in place by dental crowns on either side of the replacement.

Patients have improved biting and chewing ability with a bridge. On the downside, though, is that those neighboring teeth must be prepared by having enamel removed so there’s enough room for the replacement.

Another type of bridge doesn’t require the neighboring teeth to be prepared. The replacement tooth is supported with a frame, usually made of metal or porcelain. They are not as strong bridges held in place by crowns.

A more modern type of bridge is supported by dental implants. Implants are metal posts that are inserted directly into the jaw. Bridges secured this way are much stronger and more secure than other types of bridges.

Dental implants can support one artificial tooth, a bridge, or even a full dental arch.
